The 6 best things I read this week
ANOTHER week goes by and it has been a bit of a strange one in the Gympie region and for The Gympie Times.
Today we bid a fond farewell to Tom Daunt, a reporter who started here with us just over two years ago as the sport writer.
Tom is an old Gympie lad who went to St Patrick's College with his brothers and who also spent time in the police force stationed here in his home town.
He is a great bloke with an awesome sense of humour and is stepping away from the hectic life of a country journalist to take a posting with the Gympie Regional Council communications department. You might catch us tonight at Soma Soma giving Tom the send off he deserves.
We have a new journalist starting with us in a couple of weeks, coming direct from the North Burnett Times. Can't wait to introduce him to you all.
Things are always changing - but sometimes you can't help but think, the more things change the more they stay the same.
Twenty years ago we were writing about the gun debate and running letters and stories on local gun shop owner and gun advocate Ron Owen.
We are still doing it today.
Love him or hate him, Mr Owen has been an integral part of the gun debate in Australia, and is still today the owner of a gun shop and a passionate advocate for gun owners.
The easily biggest story of the week, however - and the month and the decade - is the arrest of the three people who have been questioned for weeks by police over the horrific woodchipper death of Bruce Saunders at Goomboorian.
That trial is going to be a media circus.
Tomorrow you can look forward to some more awesome reads in The Gympie Times.
Reporter Josh Preston has spent hours putting together a fascinating list of the secret sites, passages and tunnels that exist in, under and around the Gympie region that most people have no idea of.
Some of them are creepy, some are downright sad.
Josh has also compiled an interesting big read on the most beautiful properties in the region. It's a great pointer to our real estate guide too. And you can find all of Gympie region's Open Homes for this weekend online now as well - that is something different.
If you are planning on hitting the garage sale trail this weekend, here is our list of local garage sales, something we are also putting online every weekend for your convenience.
Don't forget, if you think we are doing something we shouldn't be doing at The Gympie Times, or not doing something we should be doing, please don't hesitate to call me directly on 54804233 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Until then, I hope you've had a lovely week and that you are in for a great weekend.
Stay warm, because as we had in our weather story today, things could get a bit chilly.
