The simple changes that helped mum-of-two lose 40kg
Nadia Sills lost a whopping 40kg after making two simple life changes.
At her heaviest the mother-of-two was 120kg. She is now at her ideal weight of 80kg.
"I went back to basics with losing the weight," she says. "No magic pill or no starvation diet. It was the old-fashioned way of exercising and eating healthy."
Nadia credits boutique gym Fever Fitness for Women, and especially its owner Deb Purchase, for helping achieve her ideal weight.
"I tried many gyms in Townsville and I joined up for many fitness challenges but it never made much difference to my weight," she said.
"It was only when I joined Fever Fitness that my whole outlook on exercise and healthy eating changed.
"I felt comfortable in the ladies-only gym environment, and that helped me to keep to my exercise and healthy eating plan."
Nadia's weight-loss journey is one that took her from the back row of fitness classes to the front.
"It wasn't easy for me at 120kg to walk into a gym and do a fitness class," she says. "I positioned myself in the back row at first and did my best.
"The more I felt welcomed by the ladies at Fever Fitness, the more comfortable I felt.
"It was easier to turn up every day and give it my best in that supportive and inclusive women-only environment.
"Slowly and surely I made my way closer to the front of the class as my fitness and confidence grew."
Nadia now instructs a couple of classes a week at Fever Fitness.
"I didn't understand how miserable I was about my weight and fitness until I got in the presence of women who were feeling great about themselves," she said.
"Those inspirational wo-men motivated me, and now I am an instructor and I get the privilege of motivating other women to reach their fitness and health goals."
Ms Purchase said she was proud her gym was a space that allowed women to achieve their fitness goals in a supportive and friendly environment.
"Women don't have to be worrying about who is looking at them, what they are doing," she said.
"I'm proud that the gym has a feeling of family here."
