Thrills and spills at show rodeo

IF YOU thought all the fun of the Gympie Show was over, the best is yet to come.

This afternoon all the thrills and spills of the Channel 7 Championship Rodeo will entertain crowds from 1pm.

Gympie Show Society rodeo co-ordinator Joe Mooney said this year’s rodeo would be the best ever.

He said the inclusion of the big video screen at the showgrounds would add another dimension to the rodeo action.

For the first time rodeo fans would be able to see action replays of each cowboy’s ride, allowing people to relive all of the bone crunching falls and eight-second rides.

Mooney said stock owner Brian King was bringing the best of his bucking bulls to the show.

Bulls like Red Dirt Road and Muscle and Blood are some of the best on the rodeo circuit, according to Mooney.

“They are some of the best bulls people will see,” Mooney said.

“They are phenomenal.”

He said more than 60 bull riders had nominated for the event.

There were also around 20 bronc riders and a huge field of timed event contestants like team roping and bulldogging.

“We have over 300 competitors all up,” Mooney said.

He said the entertainment for show patrons wouldn’t finish after the rodeo.

The Dukes of Rhythm were ready to entertain the crowds while the big screen replayed film clips from all the night’s rodeo action.

Mooney said there would also be a full bar open all through the night.
