Two new millionaires for Tweed in lucky Lotto streak
THERE must be something in the water.
The Tweed celebrated its third multi-million dollar win in almost as many months as customers of two newsagents located on the same street in Tweed Heads South, pocketed $2 million each this week.
The Division One winning entries for NSW Lotto's $30 Million Megadraw on January 2 were purchased at Tweed City News and Curtis News - both located on Minjungbal Dr.
The two separate entries hit the jackpot with prizes of $2 million each.
The first ticket, purchased from Tweed City News, was claimed shortly after the winning numbers 40, 10, 31, 3, 45 and 44 were drawn, while the second ticket, purchased from Curtis News, remained a mystery until yesterday.
Lotto NSW was forced to send out alerts to the Tweed Heads South agency as they searched for the mystery millionaire earlier this week.
Because the Division One winning entry was not registered to a Players' Club Card, NSW Lotteries had no way of contacting the winner.
It turned out the ticket wasn't registered because it was a 50-game Quick Pick given to the lucky winner as a Christmas present. Both winners chose to remain anonymous.
They joined another recent Tweed winner, 'Chris', a truck driver from Banora Point who won more than $2.34 million in a Keno jackpot at Twin Towns Juniors last October.
In January 2015, a Banora Point news agency $20 million dollar Lotto winner declared the first thing she would buy with her winnings was a new mobile phone.
Tweed City News co-owner Alistair Liddemore said he was thrilled to discover one of his customers had won $2 million, but was careful not to deliver the news within ear shot of other shoppers.
"I said to him: 'Could you please come over (to a quiet spot), there's a problem with your ticket', and then I told him," Mr Liddemore said.
"It was really exciting but of course, you never know how many new friends you might have once everyone finds out you've won."
Meanwhile, Hervey Bay grandparents woke up $70 million richer yesterday, after winning Thursday night's Powerball jackpot.
It was the biggest win in Powerball history. The couple said they'd travel and buy a luxury car.
