Unique basketball training hub bounced around
The Sunshine Coast could soon be home to a "one-of-a-kind" basketball coaching and training facility.
An application has been lodged with the Sunshine Coast Council to create the specialist facility on part of the Mammoth Self Storage Sheds site at Forest Glen.
The man behind the plan is Marios Constantinides MC Property Investments Pty Ltd.
He also owns Mammoth Self Storage.
The facility will offer one-on-one sessions as well as skills training for groups of up to 10 but no competition games will be played on site.
The space is being purpose-built for Pride Performance, a high performance skills development group, which currently operates out of the Maroochydore Clippers Stadium.
Sunshine Coast Phoenix NBL1 men's team member Josh Walters has played basketball for 19 years and competed professionally across Europe.
Mr Walters said the facility would provide more room for his students.
"It's something the Sunny Coast is lacking," he said.

"I've been here for about eight years and the basketball game has changed dramatically.
"Eight years ago I would have struggled to put a team together.
"The skill development aspect is more in demand now, because if you don't have skills, don't know how to shoot or dribble, it's hard to get anywhere."
A development report to Sunshine Coast Council stated the presence of the Phoenix men's team had raised the profile of the game and the facility would further promote participation across the region.
Mr Walters said he and his three staff members planned to include online programs, monthly check-ins with participants and video feedback.
He said the development would be a one-of-a-kind training venue for southeast Queensland.
The plans show two shooting stations, a small wooden basketball court, warm-up area and waiting area across 506 sqm.

The documents stated the facility would be available for coaching and training sessions seven-days-a-week from 6am to 9pm.
The code assessable development is located within the existing approved industrial development off the Bruce Highway at Forest Glen.
