Gympie's first electoral forum tonight
THE Tin Can Bay Chamber of Commerce will host the first of the Gympie region's election forums at the Tin Can Bay Country Club tonight.
All three mayoral candidates will attend - Mick Curran, George Groth and Derek Hume - along with the three candidates for Division 1, which takes in all of the Cooloola Coast - Bevan Reibel, Mark McDonald and Jessica Milne.
The Gympie Times will be there to report on what Division 1 voters see as the major concerns and issues leading up to the March 19 poll.
Tomorrow night, the Gympie Chamber of Commerce will host the first of three Gympie forums, with tomorrow night's event presenting the candidates for Divisions 3 and 5.
Division 3 takes in Glastonbury, Bells, Tamaree, Chatsworth, Fisherman's Pocket, Two Mile, Araluen and Corella. Candidates running in this division are Mal Gear, Shane Jocumsen and Leonora Cox.
Division 5 takes in Mothar Mountain, Cedar Pocket, Greens Creek, Wilson's Pocket, Wolvi, Neusavale, East Deep Creek and Coondoo. Candidates running in this division are Peter Kross, Dan Stewart and Gay Lohse.
Questions to be selected randomly for the candidates are to be submitted through The Gympie Times offices at 44 Nash St, or via email at email@example.com.
Gympie voters will have a chance to see the mayoral candidates in action at the second Gympie forum, to be held in the Civic Centre next Wednesday, March 9.
That night will also showcase the candidates for Division 6, which takes in Booubyjan, Kilkivan, Goomeri, Tansey, Glen Echo, Woolooga, Miva, Lower Wonga, Widgee, Manumbar, Black Snake, Upper Glastonbury, Mary's Creek, Pie Creek, McIntosh Creek, Long Flat, Langshaw and Amamoor Creek.
A second Division 6 forum will be held in the Lower Wonga Hall on Monday, March 7.
Hall committee spokeswoman Diane Johnston said all mayoral and Division 6 candidates had confirmed they would be there.
The night will be combined with the hall AGM, which will run from 7-7.30pm followed by question time for the candidates from 7.30-8.30pm.
Candidates for Division 6 are Brian Thomas, Ray Currie, Hilary Smerdon and Kevin White.
Tonight's Tin Can Bay event starts at 6pm. Tomorrow night's Gympie forum starts at 6-6.30pm.
