Artwork reflects Wally's love of wildlife
WALLY Melnyk's exhibition at the Gympie Regional Gallery titled Don't Give up on Australian Wildlife represents many years of gathering information about humans and comments on the complexity of protecting our Australian wildlife.
His various types of wooden carved and painted wildlife animals (like the one pictured, above) are reminiscent of totems or shields are inlaid with ornate shiny beads, etched metals, semi-precious gems and found objects.
They reflect his love of nature and the environment.
Gallery co-ordinator Joolie Gibbs said Wally had a developed a unique response to environmental situations, using his artwork to comment to the wider community.
His exhibition will officially open on Wednesday, November 25 at 5.30pm at the Gympie Regional Gallery.
