Football community to raise money for kid hit by car
THE GREEN family from Wandoan have been to hell and back over the last week and half since their eight-year-old son Jaxon was struck by a car near Chinchilla on Saturday, August 10.
The "cheeky little boy" who loves nothing more than playing footy with his two brothers on the family farm has been in a Queensland Children's Hospital in an induced coma after suffering multiple fractures to his femur, pelvis, collarbone and face.
A shard of light has pierced the darkness hanging over the family when they witnessed signs of improvement in their son's condition.
Jaxon was moved to the neurosurgery ward on Saturday and after many doctor visits, they are all happy with his progress so far.
"Jaxon had his indwelling catheter and all his stitches removed on Monday and is slowly beginning to tolerate more and more foods via his mouth," Mrs Green said.
With a long rehabilitation ahead including travel expenses, down time from work and further surgeries, the family are in for several months of financial strain.
In a big to take some of the pressure off, the Wandoan Wildcats have come to the Green's aid.
"We are hosting the final Western Downs junior football carnival this Saturday and we're aiming to raise funds for Jaxon and his family," Wandoan Junior Rugby League Football Club secretary, Eboni Davis said.
"The carnival is going to have a crazy sock theme in Jaxon's honour, and we are asking everyone who participates to donate $2 towards his medical expenses.
"This accident has really rocked our little community and we just want to see Jaxon recover as quickly as possible."
Jaxon's aunty, Julia Green has also set up a GoFundMe page to offer support which the Wandoan community and other members of the surrounding regions have really gotten behind.
"James and Hannah are overwhelmed by the support they have received from the donors and would like to thank everyone," she said.
