'We struggled big time' says Harlequins skipper
HARLEQUINS captain Tim Kross said his side "struggled big time" in Saturday's Sunshine Mitre 10 A-League cricket fixture against Valleys.
While Valleys made 124 runs, which were passed by Harlequins with two wickets to spare, Kross said his side operated in "typical Harlequins fashion" and made hard work out of something that "should have been a walk in the park".
"It ended up being a good game, but we made it a harder job than what it should have been," Kross said.
He said although Harlequins ploughed through their bowling with some success, it was again their batting which let them down.
"It was typical Harlequins style, we get ourselves in a good position but out batting let us down," Kross said.
Kross commented on the day's bowling standouts, praising young blood Jarred Darrach for taking 2-35 and Mark Smith, who bowled 1-32.
Smith's performance saw him bowl Connor Ryan and stem his runs at eight while Darrach bowled Valleys bottom-order batsmen Andy Leppien and Tyson Hillcoat before he could even clock up one run.
Harlequins' Peter Kross also bowled with some class, making 3-29.
Tim Kross said while it wasn't Harlequins' best performance to date, the one-day format is better suited to the side's set up but they were yet to totally settle in.
"One days suit our game but we haven't seemed to fire at the moment," Kross said.
He said the team would train tomorrow and reassess its tactics.
"We will be having a sit down to iron out a few things in our game plan," Kross said.
He said Valleys always presented a competitive opposition and they didn't let anyone down on Saturday.
Valleys didn't fire out any big run tallies on Saturday, but Glen Brady bowled 2-18 and Andy Lawless bowled 3-25.
