Weather to play a part in Gympie Gold revival

CRICKET: Gympie Gold XI veteran Troy Ashton predicts weather will have a major influence on his side's chances of winning today and tomorrow.

In a dense weekend of cricket, the Gold takes on Noosa away and Glasshouse at Albert Park in a one-day match.

Fresh from a narrow loss to Caboolture last start, the Gold will be looking for points, particularly in the shorter format.

However, if the predicted rain ends up falling, players may not even get the chance to take the field. It is a scenario Ashton hopes does not eventuate.

"The weather will play

a part one way or the

other this weekend for sure,” he said.

"It is all about consistency in the wet.

"Cricket is like any other sport, you need game time.”

In his final year in the Sunshine Coast division, Ashton has not ruled out a form revival for the Gold this weekend.

He said fielding was an issue in his side's loss to the Snakes.

"It is just a matter of doing the basics right,”

he said.

"(In the one-day format), as long as one person goes on to make a score and we bat around them we should be right.”

Every side in the Sunshine Coast competition will be forced to play a double header this weekend.
