Wide Bay Buccaneers confirm coaching cast for 2018 QPL
TIM Lunnon has confirmed the coaches that will steer Wide Bay Buccaneers in its first Football Queensland Premier League season.
The Buccaneers held its first trial at Bundaberg's Martens Oval, the venue nominated as its official home ground for the 2018 club's inaugural season, on Sunday, and is scheduled to hold a session at Maryborough's Federation Park Field this Saturday.
Lunnon has acquired former Bundaberg Spirit youth team coach Steve Bates as an assistant.
Benjamin Brookfield was named as the Buccaneers' first official signing on September 21.
Brookfield, an Englishman who prefers defensive midfield or centre back, played for Launceston City in Tasmania, and will coach either the club's under-18s team.
Both Bates and Brookfield will be based at the Fraser Coast, and will run training sessions held at the club's "southern hub".
The Buccaneers' plan is to run two training hubs - one in Bundaberg, the other at the Fraser Coast - to limit players' mid-week travel.
Former United Park Eagles mentor Kieran McKean is set to coach the Buccaneers' U20s.
McKean coached UPE to the Three Cities League grand final in 2015, before he took a break from coaching.
The four junior teams are also split between the Fraser Coast and Bundaberg.
Adrian Elmes and Dale Paxton will coach the under-14s and U15s, while Bundaberg duo Connor Gordon and Ash Bratton will coach the U13s and U16s respectively.
The then-named Football Wide Bay was awarded one of 14 Football Queensland Premier League licences on May 29.
A late inclusion, Football Wide Bay acquired a licence offered to Across The Waves, who withdrew in the final days.
The Football Queensland Wide Bay club's moniker was revealed at a meeting on Tuesday, June 20.
The Buccaneers named Martens Oval as its home on July 18, and named as one of 25 clubs to run a Skills Acquisition Phase Program on August 9.
