Winds of change for anglers in cooloola

GOTCHA: Offshore reports have been quiet this week with the strong winds blowing and large seas, but things are finally easing back for today with a great forecast throughout the weekend.

The winds will be south to south-easterly at 10 to 15 knots, with 1 - 1.5m seas easing to 1m.

Tomorrow's winds will be 10 knots variable with seas under 1m.

Local reports on the inshore reefs in Hervey Bay include mac tuna, queenfish, school and grey mackerel between Urangan and Woody Islands, as well as mac and long tail tuna, golden trevally closer to Fraser in Platypus Bay.

The winter whiting are running hot out form Gatekers Bay, Tinnanbar and out from Woodgate.

There are no reports from the Sunshine Coast or Rainbow Beach Reefs due to bad weather.

The estuaries, dam and beach scene has been better.

Fraser Island has seen dart, whiting, bream and a few tailor along the surf gutters.

Hervey Bay has had reports of threadfin salmon, jew, bream and jew up in the Mary River with squid around the rock ledges and weed beds.

Rainbow Beach reports tailor, bream, flathead and dart along Inskip point with a few flathead and bream from Carlow Point.

Golden trevally can be found in Kauri Creek.

In Noosa, flathead up to 60cm can be found from Munna Point and around 82cm in Woods Bay.

There are tailor, flathead and bream from the river mouth.

Trevally and tailor in Woods Bay and Noosa Sound with bream throughout the lower river.

Bream, flathead and grunter bream can be found along the Tewantin reach with estuary cod and Moses perch in Weyba Creek.

In Maroochydore, tailor and flathead have been reported from the river mouth.

Luderick from the rock walls and weed beds.

Golden, cale cale and giant trevally, tailor, queenfish, jew and flathead in the middle river on lures with flathead, tailor and bream from Bli Bli and Petrie Creek.

A few solid mud crabs have been found in the deeper holes of the middle river and the sand crabs in the lower river.

Further south in Mooloolaba there are plenty of good gar fish which have been caught in the La Balsa sand basin as well as some big bream and trevally around the boat moorings.

In Caloundra, tailor from the northern tip of Bribie have been reported with bream, flathead and trevally from the boardwalk.

There is flathead and bream from Military Jetty and whiting and bream along Golden Beach.
