Winterbottom stars to take four from four

MARK Winterbottom must wish every round of the V8 Supercars championship was held at Albert Park.

The Ford man became the first driver since Russell Ingall in 1997 and 1998 to win all four races held in conjunction with the Australian Formula One Grand Prix. The good news for Ford didn't stop there - teammate Chaz Mostert finished second in all four races.

Shane van Gisbergen and James Courtney were the other drivers to stand on the podium, van Gisbergen finishing third three times.

Despite the clean sweep, Winterbottom said he didn't expect the results to translate into automatic success over six-time champion and 2015 championship favourite Jamie Whincup - who finished fifth twice and sixth twice - in round two at Symmons Plains in two weeks.

"He (Whincup) knows what he is doing. He will go to Tassie and be screaming the pole position again I am sure. You don't read too much into it," Winterbottom said.

The races in Melbourne did not count towards the championship.
